Privacy Policy

astr (the “Service”) is operated by Astr LLC, a Wyoming limited liability company (“we,” “us,” “our”). This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. If you have questions, email privacy@astr.love.

We collect the following categories of personal data:

• Account data: email address, name, and authentication credentials (via Clerk).
• Birth chart data: birth date, birth time, and birth location. This is the core of the Service—without it, astrology-based matching cannot work.
• Profile data: photos, bio, pronouns, gender, relationship intent, lifestyle preferences, and other fields you complete.
• Chat data: messages you send and receive through the Service, including reactions and read receipts.
• Usage data: pages visited, actions taken, device type, IP address, and referrer—collected via cookies and analytics.
• Payment data: if you subscribe, Stripe processes your card. We store only the subscription tier and status, never your full card number.

• Compute your astrological blueprint (Sun sign, Life Path, Chinese zodiac) and match you to compatible users.
• Operate the Service: authenticate you, deliver messages, show your profile to matches, process subscriptions.
• Send transactional email (welcome, new match, weekly digest) and, if you opt in, marketing email. You can unsubscribe from marketing at any time.
• Detect abuse, fraud, and violations of our Community Guidelines.
• Improve the Service through aggregate analytics.

We share data only with vendors that help us operate the Service. Each is bound by a data processing agreement.

• Clerk — authentication and identity.
• Neon (Postgres) — database hosting.
• Vercel — application hosting, edge caching, and Blob storage for profile photos.
• Stripe — subscription payments.
• Pusher — real-time chat delivery.
• Resend — transactional and marketing email.
• PostHog — product analytics.
• Anthropic — AI compatibility coach. When you chat with the coach, your messages and your chart are sent to Anthropic to generate a response. Anthropic does not train models on this data.

We do not sell your personal data. We do not share it with advertisers.

We retain your account and profile data while your account is active. If you delete your account, we permanently delete your data within 30 days, except:

• Records we are legally required to keep (e.g. payment records for tax purposes).
• De-identified aggregate analytics.
• Backup snapshots, which roll off within 90 days.

You have the right to:

• Access the personal data we hold about you.
• Correct inaccurate data (edit your profile in Settings).
• Delete your account and associated data (Settings → Delete account).
• Export a copy of your data. Email privacy@astr.love.
• Opt out of marketing email via the unsubscribe link in any message.

California residents have additional rights under the CCPA. EU/UK residents have additional rights under the GDPR. To exercise any of these rights, email us.

We use first-party cookies to keep you signed in and to remember preferences. PostHog uses a first-party cookie to attribute page views and events to an anonymous ID. You can block cookies in your browser, but the Service will not function correctly without session cookies.

We use industry-standard encryption in transit (TLS) and at rest. Passwords are hashed by Clerk; we never see them. Photos are stored in private Vercel Blob buckets and served through signed URLs. No system is perfectly secure—if you suspect an incident, email privacy@astr.love.

astr is for adults 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If we learn a user is under 18, we delete their account immediately.

The Service is operated from the United States. If you access it from outside the US, your data is transferred to and processed in the US. Where required by law, we rely on Standard Contractual Clauses for such transfers.

We may update this policy. If we make material changes, we will notify you by email or in-app before the changes take effect. Continued use of the Service after that date constitutes acceptance.
